THE MURDERGAME SHIPPING MEME

This is probably too straight to accurately represent murdergame ships but like. We take what the stock image industry gives us.

So, you've been put into a murder mystery game where you're going to have to fight for your life! Every week another body or two, surrounded by strangers- Wait, you knew that? You actually kind of have your bearings? Well fine, here's a different problem - see that person over there? Yeah, that one. Wouldn't it be a really terrible idea if you fell in love with them right now?

This is a meme for that sometimes most fun of bad choices in murdergames: shipping. Leave a toplevel with info that might be in your character's profile (if you like), maybe a murdergame title (optional but encouraged), and any extra info you want to give along with whatever your shipping prefs are, then either pick from the prompts below or wing it and go tag around!

SETTINGS (note: absolutely not an exhaustive list)
1. Shopping Mall - Live your teen movie romance dreams! Sure, someone seems to get mcfucking murdered in the Starbucks every week, but that doesn't mean you can't go on a coffee date, right?
2. School - Live the... other party of your teen movie romance dreams! It's a little hard to be romantic when the only place for a dinner date is the cafeteria, but in fairness you are also constantly overcoming bigger problems than that here.
3. Generic Facility - Looking for romance? Try scenic Sealed-Off Building Full of Rooms! It's themed in some way - science, underwater - but the concept is the same. Surely there's some kind of bar or inexplicable amusement park in here you could use for a romantic evening, right?
4. Spooky Mansion - You know what they say about going on dates to scary movies, right? What if the scary movie was uh. The whole thing. The whole place. Where you live. And die, sometimes.
5. Romance Zone - I mean hey, maybe you're stuck somewhere literally built for both romance and murder! Pleasure and pain. Life and death. Smoochin' and stabbin'.
6. Other - If you can block off an area, you can put a murdergame there. Get creative!

PROMPTS (ship scenarios)
1. Confession (Fun) - Ah, the start of any good murdergame relationship. Maybe you've been dancing around each other for a week or two, maybe over the course of one thread and a lot of screaming your players decided you're gonna kiss. Time to figure out what these feelings mean while you're, you know. Here. Can be combined with some of the other prompts too, if you like.
2. Dating??? - Where do you even go to date in a murdergame? Is it even worth trying to hang onto this kind of normalcy when either of you could die any day now? It's probably fine.
2b. Dating+ - Can be combined with any other prompt, but somehow, some way, one of you is taking the lead in this date and getting a bunch of emotions in... because you're deathflagging. You're deathflagging hard.
3. Afterparty - Hey, that was a rough trial! Whatever it was! But you're both alive, so... better try to comfort each other, huh? Enjoy whatever kind of snacks you guys have available.
4. Confession (Unfun) - Oops, uh. One of you... seems to have confessed to murder. Better get whatever last moments in that you can before voting ends and one of you gets brutally executed!
5. The Couple That Kills Together - Okay, so maybe you did or didn't actually kill someone together. But at least one of you did a murder, and the body hasn't been properly discovered yet, so... time to talk this through? Make bad choices for love?
6. Deadland Romance - Maybe you've just reunited in the land of the dead, or maybe this is where you're trying to get your relationship off the ground. Either way, there's gotta be some weird emotions to "we're dead and trying to make it work."
7. Golden End Reunion - Great news! You beat up the mastermind (or befriended them, I don't know your style) and got all of the dead people back, including the other half of your ship! That's gotta feel good, seeing them again after however many weeks.
8. What now? - The game is over, it's time to go home. But... which home? If you split up, is there going to be a chance to visit each other again? Can you work that kind of long-distance?
9. Smut Option - Look. It's not generally onscreen, but hookups happen. Did you have to kick roommates out? Is this the fabled... you know, variant of option 5? Basically look, if you wanna use this meme for smut I'm not gonna say no, just tag appropriately.
10. Anything else! - Look, one of the fun things about murdergame ships is how many ways they can go in the emotional crucible inherent to them. I can't account for a lot of things ahead of the basics, so plot with your thread partner and have fun with it! Hell, maybe bring a good ol' murdergame polyblob into the mix, I'm not gonna stop you! Go with ur heart, assume other characters, live your truth!

Oh, is that all? [She pulls back to arms length, sniffling and wiping her face.] I'm sure Obi-Wan is a little less upset about losing the guy that was obsessed with him.

[At first it seemed like a romance thing, then it turned out he murdered children and the whole thing just fell apart.]

[ Well, at the very least she had encountered her when she was more well off. Putting it generously, though, considering the situation, and surface level appearances were always more than they seemed. Luckily, Fang wouldn't have to fight to get a straight answer (and she would've in Camilla's case.) She wasn't the type of woman to go about these things overtly gently, after all.

Not for the precious few who had a place close to her heart, so to speak. So when the other woman spoke her words, Fang listened closely. Those were words that resonated with her deeply.

And she imagined the two of them charging into battle against their captors. Consider it a little fantasy; but she's seen how well-executed Carmilla's swings were...even before now. And just because she's beautiful (because she absolutely was.) ]

I'd be right aside you, doing the same damn thing. And it just happens I think you'd be the best around to team up with so we can give what's coming to them.

[ But she'll fold her arms, looking at her in the eyes, giving her the kind of straight answer that came naturally. She wouldn't pretend that it's not bothersome worthy. All the same, though... ]

No one threatens any one of mine and gets away with it. So, there's an answer to your question. It's a good motive; but they're going to be in for it by the time this is over, and not just for kidnappin' us.

There are... other things happening here too, but I can tell you them later.

[That motive announcement sure had been a thing. Finn wanted to see Jake again -doubly so once he realized that this whole haunted house murder mystery thing wasn't just another elaborate birthday prank- but in a threatening hostage photo wasn't what he'd had in mind.]

[Everyone was taking it pretty poorly. He probably couldn't do anything to rescue the hostages yet, but maybe he could at least help with that.]

[So he's seeking out Jane in whatever dusty corner of the mansion she's retreated to.]

Hey, uh. You okay? I made some spaghetti.

[He hesitantly offers a plate.]

...it's a couple packets of those old instant noodles they've got in the kitchen and some ketchup, but it's kind of like actual spaghetti. If you pretend real hard.

[It's fine guys, this is all a prank, right?]

[His title is probably just "The Human" or something.]

[It's her Dad.

Hadn't he suffered enough already? Why drag him into this mess? This was not how Jane wanted to see him again, in a photo with his life threatened. It's gotten to the point where she's a little too tired to rage like she wants to, and instead she's gone to sulk in a Parlor, shoes kicked off so she can tuck her legs to her chest without feeling guilty for mucking up the chaise lounge. She's not hiding, so it's not hard to find her.

She does look up when Finn approaches, and...

Oh.

That's...thanks. I-I'm not really hungry right now, but...thank you, really.

[If she were in better spirits, she'd laugh at the absurdity.]

[ This is all very strictly cute (or upsetting) tween shit, because despite having a listed age of 15 on the inevitable group of profiles everyone gets, Lena is physically 12 or 13 or something! Also she's an anthropomorphic duck and she's like two and a half feet tall.

Anyway, she's a sarcastic rebel who plays by her own rules but is also limited by the ethical confines of a Disney show, and she doesn't like to talk about her past, like, at all. And if you're into misery and know what her canonical deal is... 8) ]

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the noodles are kinda soggy anyway.

[He fidgets with the fork for a moment as he sits down, twirling up a few of the ramen noodles before setting the entire plate off to one side.]

That was your dad, right? He seems nice. Looks nice. I mean sometimes people look nice and are secretly super evil, but you're pretty super good so he's gotta be too.

[Dear Camilla, oh, how such praise makes her heart sing. Camilla brings her hand to her face, gently laughing--not the polite laughter that Camilla might reserve for a joke someone tried really hard on that fell flat, but a genuine, delighted little laugh that Camilla only reserves for few.

(And it also helps mask the light bit of pink that blooms onto her cheeks--oh, she's so in over her head, and she loves it.)]

You're so kind, dear. But I feel much the same; even under these conditions, I am grateful that we have found companionship despite it all.

[Camilla's hand comes down from her mouth and she leads the way easily to the garden--Camilla's set up one of the table's nicely, cups and plates placed perfectly for them. The tea pot is still nice and hot, and there's even some pastries set out on another plate, still nice and delightfully warm from the oven. They don't look like anything you'd get from the cafeteria...

Either way, however, Camilla bids Lunafreya to sit; being that she's the host, she's delighted to pour Lunafreya a nice cup of tea, provided she doesn't wish to get her own. It's only polite, after all--]

I made sure only to get the perfect tea for such an occasion--and I used an old recipe from home for the pastries, if you would like one. It truly brings me great joy to have this time with you...

[ It honestly was a mixed bag, this group. Though Cid was glad that he was still able to find enjoyable company in the man beside him; it made this whole... situation more bearable. Even if he wouldn't wish any of this on anyone.

Not even on the damnable Fal'Cie. Even if the idea they could be contained by such things would be too laughable of a prospect to properly maintain...

Cid will leave such silly thoughts behind to not think too hard about how the other smiled, and actually provide an answer, feeling a slight curl of his lips occur on its own. Such things were contagious, after all. ]

We seem to be of the same mind. [ He'll almost let out a chuckle at a thought. ] I can't say I was ever enthusiastic about parties; especially when I started in the military, where there were more celebrations than I had imagined. But, there's no loud fireworks and music, which means I can enjoy the festivities just fine.

...Spending the time in familiar company does help, though.

Oh, I - I'm not really "super good", Finn, but...yeah. He's. He's very dadly and sweet.

[She closes her eyes, takes a deep breath. Pulls her legs closer so there's room on the chaise for Finn to sit if he likes.]

...I honestly hadn't been sure he was even still alive.

[ So! Things went wrong. By any account, things went very, very wrong.

The details are blurry, but the facts are clear. Webbigail Vanderquack and Lena Hercurrentlastname are dead. And that's rough! Probably. Did they even get a chance to talk about their feelings before they got fucking ganked by an anime fighting game character or some kind of Magica shenanigans happened? Unclear. We can figure out case details as we go. But they're dead, and it's time for the old standby of "welcome to deadland, same as the liveland but a little weirder and sadder."

Annnd the revelation of death, whether they died together in the same room or not, is going to be interrupted byyyyyyyy: ]

Hello? Charon? Ammit the Devourer? ... Ereshkigal, Mesopotamian goddess of the underworld? I'm trying to cover my bases here, but if someone could speak up that'd be super!

[To say that this game has been taxing is an understatement. The cold has never bothered Camilla, truly; Nohr is a cold place in more ways than one, but to watch these people kill, to watch them with the knowledge that the more time she spends in this place, the more her precious siblings could be in danger--it was all suffocating, really.

But there's a voice. A voice that cuts through the fog in her mind, fills her lungs with fresh air, and Camilla turns around--and there comes Linde, rushed as Camilla walks back towards her quarters after the lovely dinner she had with Tethys and Anna; Camilla could feel the thoughts ebb out of her mind as the other girl ran up, and for a brief moment their shoulders touched, and ah--

It's an accident, Camilla is all but certain, but her heart still skips a beat all the same. It feels like there's always something in the air between them; something left unsaid, something which Camilla so wishes she could put into words around a woman who Camilla has listened to, who she's defended, who she's enjoyed her time around...]

Oh Linde, dear, of course it's not a bother! I would be happy to stay with you for the evening.

[Even the more rational part of Camilla is agreement, if such a thing exists; Linde couldn't possibly hurt her physically, after all.]

I trust that everything is quite alright?

[ It's been a few weeks now, and... the first case was rough. But there's something different about the second trial, the idea that this might be how things go now is starting to sink in.

But there's an afterparty, and people are together, and Angel finds herself drifting towards Anna for totally normal reasons, because Anna is so nice to her and she wants to make sure if there's anything she can do to help back that she does it, and not at all because she gets a weird flutter in her chest whenever Anna smiles. Murder and feeling powerless to change things? For better or for worse, that's Angel's emotional wheelhouse. ]

Hey, Anna. I, uh... brought you some stew? It looks pretty good.

Oh, of course! Well— [And, realizing she's said that too quickly, she chuckles, in that way one does when it isn't funny at all.] Besides the usual, I guess.

[The usual. So that's what all these weeks of death have come to.

She lowers her voice, enough to sound like she offers a confession if not a secret.] I've just...been nervous. And I couldn't have asked anyone else.

[Linde, for one, more certainly has a rational voice in her, and it has seen the hot fury Camilla defends her with when someone dares accuse Linde at a trial, and hears the unspoken offer to fix the situation in her latest question, and could not speak over the sound of Linde's ever-pounding heart to suggest Camilla would ever try to hurt her if it wanted to.]

Man. That's major-type rough.

[Yeah, he'll sit. This feels like it's gonna be a heart to heart type chat, that requires a certain level of proximity.]

My parents've been gone for a while now. I mean, my real parents. My human mom's still kind of around, but-

[It's complicated. Emotionally AND logistically.]

What's he like? Besides, you know. Dad-ish.

[She sits down quietly next to Darling.]

[She stares down at her lap for a moment, searching for the right words to encapsulate everything the morning had been.]

[ Darling sort of. Stares at her sandwich. ]

You've got that right. One of the royally worst things I've seen ever after. [ And after that incredible display of slang: ] But how you feel about it matters too, you know.

[Trading a spooky ghost island for a spooky ghost mansion wasn't a great upgrade. Especially now, as Nona found herself more front and center to the supernatural than ever. But it's fine! Clarissa was here!

Clarissa who, after some awkward moments, ended up..... becoming more than just a friend to Nona. Which might be. weird for whenever they get home to Alex, Ren, and Jonas. It was something to think about, even though Nona hadn't yet.

She was a bit busy though, dealing with the fact that she'd killed Kara, the Ultimate Mother in a freak accident... and Clarissa herself had just discovered a bit of that blue blood on the back of Nona's sneaker.]

I... T-there's a explanation for that, I swear.

[ Clarissa is quiet for a moment, before quietly lighting a cigarette, expression even more imperceptible than usual. She's already standing near Nona, but for the moment she's not really looking at her. She's not really looking at anything. ]
